The Palmer-Maloney Counting Cell is a precision counting chamber designed specifically for the enumeration of nanoplankton and small phytoplankton under high magnification. Similar in concept to the Sedgewick-Rafter counting chamber, the Palmer-Maloney cell features a shallow circular chamber that allows the use of 40× to 45× objectives (400–450× total magnification), making it ideal for counting organisms too small to be accurately assessed in a standard Sedgewick-Rafter cell. It is widely used in limnology, oceanography, water quality monitoring, wastewater analysis, and phytoplankton research.
