The Wildco 196-B15 Standard Ekman Bottom Grab is a professional benthic sediment sampler designed for collecting quantitative and qualitative samples from soft, fine-grained bottom sediments. Constructed entirely of stainless steel, the sampler features 6 × 6 × 6 inch (15 × 15 × 15 cm) opposing jaws that close rapidly when triggered by a messenger, capturing an undisturbed sample of mud, silt, organic ooze, marl, and other soft substrates. The overlapping scoop design minimizes sample loss during retrieval while the dependable Twin-Pin™ release mechanism provides consistent operation in the field.

The 196-B15 is the preferred Ekman dredge for limnological studies, environmental monitoring, fisheries assessments, and benthic invertebrate surveys where soft sediments are present. It is not recommended for rocky, gravel, sandy, or densely vegetated bottoms, where coarse material may prevent complete jaw closure. The sampler is compatible with Wildco accessories including the 62-C15 sampling line, SBK2 messenger, and 196-F30 Extension Handle for shallow-water operation

  • Twin-Pin™ messenger release provides dependable jaw closure with few moving parts. Use with an 11 oz. messenger (Sold separately)
  • Overlapping scoop jaws minimize sample loss during retrieval.
  • Spring-loaded closing mechanism captures relatively undisturbed sediment samples.
  • Hinged top covers open during descent to reduce resistance and close during retrieval to minimize washout.
  • Wide base improves stability on soft substrates while minimizing sediment disturbance.
  • Corrosion-resistant stainless steel construction ensures long service life in freshwater and marine environments
