Folsom Plankton Splitter
Product Code: 1831-F10
The Wildco 1831-F10 Folsom Plankton Splitter is a precision laboratory instrument designed to divide plankton and aquatic invertebrate samples into equal, representative subsamples for quantitative analysis. The splitter provides a rapid, repeatable method of reducing large plankton samples while maintaining statistical accuracy. It is widely used by fisheries biologists, limnologists, oceanographers, environmental consultants and research laboratories for plankton, zooplankton and benthic invertebrate studies.
The standard 0.5-litre model features a removable acrylic rotating drum, two removable Vivak® collection trays, four adjustable levelling feet and an integrated bubble level to ensure accurate sample division. During operation, the sample is placed into the drum and divided by rotating it through 120 degrees, producing two equal subsamples. One portion can then be returned to the drum for further splitting until the desired sample size is obtained. This method is recommended in Standard Methods for plankton enumeration and is widely used in environmental monitoring and aquatic research. Alcohol-based samples should be processed promptly, as prolonged exposure to alcohol may damage the acrylic drum.
